Bright & Colourful Fun Day 2018
Posted by John Armstrong on 2 October 2018
A cloudy morning with hints of sunshine saw a small band of volunteers under Gil Davies (as Geoff Moore was still on his way home from a weekend away) trying to create seven different targets on the green for 39 members to play to in the afternoon. But Geoff and Jenny made it back in time to lead us in a very enjoyable competition in the afternoon.
To a backdrop of music from the Stones, Beatles, Elton John, The Big O, and other favourites from years gone by (supplied by Colin Darnell), with everybody dressed as if they had raided the Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, our 8 groups of five (one was 4 actually due to a late drop-out), bowled their 3 woods for 5 ends at 5 of the targets, scoring 3 for middles, 2 for inners and 1 for outers of whatever shape the target was - not as easy as it sounds, but it was great fun. Glenys was quite excited when her group managed to get all their woods in the score zone on one end - not sure if anyone else achieved that!
Then it was inside for a bring-a-plate meal which was finished with the club cake to end all club cakes, courtesy of Jan Metcalf.
Geoff took great delight in revealing everybody's scores and awarding the customary bottles to Colin Williams (first on 109 points), Paul Scully (second with 104) and Mark Hallam (third on 100).
As Jenny & Geoff Moore are moving soon, it was their swansong competition, and Mark spoke about their contribution to club activities over the years and their effective fundraising, epecially through Jenny's passion for The Raffle! And also we were sorry to learn that Jan & Bob Budd are also on the move- Mark thanked them for their support for the Club; they also will be very much missed next year.
Talking of raffles, we finished with - you guessed it - The Raffle!
Sad to see you go, Jenny & Geoff, but wish you both well in your new home.
