President's Day 2017
Posted by John Armstrong on 2 September 2017
We couldn't have asked for better weather - a beautiful, warm day with just a hint of a breeze.
Diane Hallam had worked her magic and, dividing the players into green and red sections, organised each section's players into teams of four (playing 2 bowls each except due to a couple of last minute dropouts, two teams had 3 members playing 3-3-2).
Each team played 3 sets of 6 ends each against different opponents from the opposing section. At the end, the team in each section with the most points played each other to find the tournament's winner and runner up

But first, we started with the traditional 'Spider' - simultaneous (sort of) bowling from the edge of the green by all members, with the bowl nearest the bottle in the middle of the green being declared the winner. This year the prize of a £20 voucher was won by our Treasurer, Mike Milward.

The tournament resulted in a close-fought final (which included a dead end when the jack was knocked out of rink), with Team Moore (skippered by Geoff Moore, with Ray Brooks, Anne Sutherland & Jan Messant) just pipping Team Davies (skippered by Gil Davies, with Diane Hallam, Mike Milward & Pat Davies) 6-5.

Mark, every inch a chef!
The afternoon concluded with a BBQ beautifully cooked by Mark Hallam and organised by Chris & Ray Cole, Jenny Moore and others, and of course to the multi-bottle raffle organised by Ray and Jenny and called by Colin Darnell, plus the latest drawing of 100 Club numbers by Mike Milward.
A terrific afternoon, and thanks to all members taking part.
